John T. Corrigan, CFX Memorial Continuing Education Grant
Catholic Library Association
Continuing Education Committee
Mission Statement and Goals
The Catholic Library Association established a Continuing Education Committee to assist the national organization and local chapters and sections in providing quality, economically-priced, and accessible educational programs for CLA members and the larger public. Programs selected should not duplicate other existing educational offerings but fill a specific need for our organization. These programs can be part of the national convention, a local chapter meeting or sponsored as a separate event. At times, the Committee may collaborate with other library organizations in offering an educational conference.
The Committee will be composed of representatives from each CLA section and will meet annually at the Convention and communicate with one another throughout the year. Their primary task will be to identify members’ needs in developing education programs and workshops that respond to specific issues. The Committee will collaborate with the Executive Board, Executive Secretary, section chairs, and local chapter officers to determine programs. A focused survey can be applied to obtain consensus among members.
The Committee will also explore the possibility of establishing a speaker’s bureau which will identify speakers on particular topics who would enhance local programming efforts. Chosen for their expertise and timeliness of their topic, these speakers could assist in furthering the professional development of our membership.
The reinstitution of the John T. Corrigan, CFX Memorial Continuing Education Grant will assist chapters/sections in initiating new program efforts. The Continuing Education Committee will be responsible for reviewing and awarding these grants. Grant applications are available at the CLA National Office and are posted on the website.
Each year the Continuing Education Committee will present an annual report to the Executive Board and membership at the annual business meeting. Besides reviewing what has been accomplished and what is planned, the Committee will forward topics to the Publications Committee for consideration. New print or media materials published by CLA can assist in enhancing the members professional development.
