2020 Fall Virtual Conference Keynote Speaker – Valerie Schultz

Valerie Schultz is a free-lance writer and a columnist for The Bakersfield Californian. Her essays and short stories have appeared in The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, The Sun, and High Plains Literary Review, as well as in Catholic publications such as Liguorian, US Catholic, St. Anthony Messenger, Commonweal, Catholic Digest, Catholic Parent, Human Development, and The National Catholic Reporter. She is a frequent contributor to the Jesuit publication America and to the daily prayer book Give Us This Day. Her first book, Closer, a collection of essays on marriage and intimacy, was published by Ave Maria Press. Her award-winning book Overdue: A Dewey Decimal System of Grace, from Liturgical Press, is based on her work in a state prison library, where she and her husband Randy were also Catholic volunteers. They have four daughters.
